North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority

The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) is the federally authorized Metropolitan Planning Organization for 6.6 million people in the 13-county northern New Jersey region, including Morris County. Each year, the NJTPA oversees more than $2 billion in transportation improvement projects and provides a forum for interagency cooperation and public input into funding decisions. It also sponsors and conducts studies, assists county planning agencies, and monitors compliance with national air quality goals.

NJ Transit

NJ Transit operates an extensive commuter rail network, particularly in northern New Jersey, that serves Morris County. The rail network connects with other rail service, including PATH, MTA, Amtrak, SEPTA, and PATCO. NJ Transit also operates a statewide bus system, that includes service from Morris County to New York City Port Authority, local service within Morris County, and local service between Morris, Essex, and Passaic Counties. NJ Transit operates Access Link, which is a paratransit service for people with disabilities who are unable to use the local fixed route NJ Transit bus services.

Avenues in Motion

Avenues in Motion (formerly TransOptions) is the Transportation Management Association (TMA) for Morris, Sussex, Warren, and suburban Essex, Passaic and Union Counties. The TMA offers a variety of programs for employers and employees, safety programs for bicyclists, pedestrians, and teen drivers, and programs in environmental education and sustainability. Avenues in Motion coordinates the formation of carpools and van pools, rents out bicycle lockers at train stations, and provides information and assistance to the public on commuting and travel options.

Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey builds, operates, and maintains the region’s airport system, marine terminals and ports, the PATH rail transit system, six tunnels and bridges between New York and New Jersey, the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, and the World Trade Center.
