About Us

We secure funding for road, bridge, railroad, bicycle, and pedestrian projects. We also plan, design, and coordinate transportation projects.

Engineering staff:
  • designs, constructs, re-constructs, and paves county roads.
  • bridge and culvert construction, drainage, and repair specifications
  • designs and constructs County building facilities and traffic signals on County roads

Transportation staff:
  • conduct studies and coordinate planning efforts with state agencies, municipalities, county departments, and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority
  • They also supervise three county-owned freight railroads.

The Morris County Board of Transportation advises the Division on its activities. It's appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

New NJ Transit Train Schedules – Effective 4/23

New NJ Transit Train Schedules go into effect on April 23, including for the Morris & Essex and Montclair-Boonton lines that serve Morris County. Visit NJ Transit's website for more information and to view the latest schedules.

Berkshire Valley Road Truck Circulation Project – Public Comment Period until 4/26

Public comments for the Berkshire Valley Road Truck Circulation Project will be accepted until April 26, 2023. 

The study investigated options to eliminate the height restriction that the Chester Branch rail bridge creates on Berkshire Valley Road (CR 642) and to better accommodate trucks at the intersection of Berkshire Valley Road and North Dell Avenue in Roxbury. The findings and recommendations were presented at a virtual public meeting on March 15, 2023.

Human Services Transportation Plan – Community Open House 11/16

The Morris County Department of Human Services is updating the County’s Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan. The project team is hosting a Community Open House on November 16 for residents to share ideas to improve transportation for older adults, persons with disabilities, veterans, and other county residents. NJTPA Regional Active Transportation Plan – Get Involved

The NJTPA is developing a Regional Active Transportation Plan for northern and central New Jersey. The goal of this plan is to help establish a safe and functional regional network of pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Visit the project website to take a brief survey and read more about plan.

Construction begins on NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path

Construction has begun on the NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path, a 4.8 mile trail project to repurpose an abandoned stretch of railroad into a non-motorized recreational path from Pequannock Township to Wayne. Read the County press release for more information.

TransOptions announces name change to Avenues in Motion

TransOptions, the Transportation Management Association (TMA) serving northwestern New Jersey, including Morris County, has changed its name to Avenues in Motion. The new name is accompanied by a new website, logo, and branding that reflects the organization’s mission to enhance community health and wellbeing.
