Boonton Holmes Library

Holdings include books, journals, pamphlets, maps, and biographical and business indexes relating to Boonton’s history. The Library also has photograph and postcard collections and a vertical file with newspaper clippings. The Boonton Times Bulletin is available on microfilm (from 1872-1979) and a partial index is available. The collection also contains over 350 books and periodicals on state and local history. Chathams, Library of the

This repository contains materials (some in microfilm) relating to the history of Chatham, including records of churches, clubs, and municipal government. The collection also includes 400 books on state and local history. Some materials belong to the Chatham Historical Society. Photocopies may be made at the discretion of the reference librarian. Chester Library

The Chester Library counts among its holdings locally produced World War II newsletters, the Combe Fill South Landfill Records (which document a Superfund site in Chester and Washington Townships), family records, and the Library’s archive. The archive comprises materials created by the Friends of the Library, the Library Board of Directors, and the Library. The Board records date back to the Library’s inception in 1911. An 1860 wall-sized topographical map of New Jersey is on permanent display. Dover Free Public Library

Jefferson Township Public Library

Long Hill Township Public Library

This Library’s holdings include over nine linear feet of material on state and local history, 21 oral histories, and one document box of clippings, photographs, etc., relating to Long Hill Township. Bound copies of the weekly paper, the Echoes-Sentinel, date back to 1952. Minutes of the Board of Education are held for two years. Visit their web site at www.longhillLibrary.org.

Madison Public Library, Local History Center

This archives includes nine cubic feet of records. Subject strengths include Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge, the rose industry of Madison, and A. W. Rushmore and the Golden Hind Press. Materials include books, maps and atlases, local city directories, pamphlets, photograph files, state and local history periodicals, transcribed oral histories, the Madison Eagle (with index) on microfilm from 1882 to present. Mendham Borough Library

Morris County Library

The New Jersey Collection of the Morris County Library is actually two collections: Local History and Genealogy, and New Jersey State Documents. The Local History and Genealogy Collection has 4,500 plus books, pamphlets, magazines, microfilms, manuscripts, maps, and atlases. These materials are focused on New Jersey and Morris County. The Morris County Library is a depository Library for New Jersey documents including a collection of annual reports from state agencies and special reports on a variety of subjects. They include such items as New Jersey Economic Indicators, Listing of Licensed Child Care Centers, New Jersey Health Statistics, and Crime in New Jersey. Morristown & Morris Township Public Library

This Library’s Local History and Genealogy Department has approximately 44,000 books, maps, microfilm, and microfiche, as well as approximately 1000 linear feet of archival material relating to Morris County and New Jersey. These collections–which include deeds, church, government and charitable association records, and business and family papers–make this Library an especially valuable resource for local historians and genealogists. There are over 1,400 maps, a large photograph collection (including approximately 10,000 photographs taken by Morristown photographer Frederick Curtiss during the period 1903-1938), oral history transcriptions, an extensive microfilm collection of old newspapers, and New Jersey censuses. The Library also holds one of the finest collections of published and original material by and about the life and work of Thomas Nast, as well as an extensive collection of first edition books illustrated by Arthur Burdett Frost. Three cubic feet of materials include information relating to Rockaway families, most notably the Edmund E. Halsey collection of Civil War letters; also legal and financial documents from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries, a photographic collection, and information on churches and a war memorial association,. There is no finder’s guide, but the collection is easily surveyed. A collection of 200 books on state and local history also is available. The collections are open to researchers by appointment. Roxbury Public Library

This repository holds personal papers, church records, and histories relating to Roxbury Township. It includes the family papers of Dr. Theodore Frelinghuysen Wolfe and Mary Wolfe Thompson and papers of the Stoddard family. There is no finder’s guide, but the collection is small enough to review rapidly.
