Stigma Free: A Closer Look at Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder(s)

May is Mental Health Month

From Atlantic Health System:

“Autism or Psychiatric Conditions (or Both)? A Closer Look at Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder(s) (ASD) versus Mental Health Conditions and Co-occurring Disorders"

This presentation will examine the interplay between Autism Spectrum Disorder(s) and other conditions, especially in terms of differentiating autism from mental health conditions (such as mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, psychosis).

Jason Minion, MD, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Atlantic Behavioral Health and Zoey Shalita, MA, MEd, LPC, Autism Center, Goryeb Children's Hospital will provide a closer look at:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder(s) symptoms and discuss psychiatric conditions which may co-occur with autism(s).
  • "Clinical certainty," or what provides greater certainty that a child or adolescent actually meets criteria for ASD (versus a different condition that "masquerades" as autism).
  • Treatment strategies for ASD, mental health and co-occurring disorders.

This is a free, virtual presentation.
