Mosquito Lifecycle
Mosquitoes need standing water to lay their eggs.
- Egg: Eggs are laid on the water surface or where flooding will occur.
- Larva: The mosquito begins to develop in the water.
- Pupa: Wings, legs and appendages develop. Still a waterborne stage of the mosquito.
- Adult: The female adult has a blood meal, then returns to the water to start the cycle again.

- There are 40 mosquito species in Morris County.
- Not all mosquitoes bite humans.
- Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water.
- Mosquitoes develop from egg to adult in about 5- 7 days.
- Any standing water makes a good habitat for mosquitoes.
- Standing water from containers should be emptied whenever possible.
- It is easiest to control mosquitoes as larvae and pupae.
