Dump and drain standing water

Did you know that a flowerpot saucer that is holding water can produce nearly 260,000 mosquitoes throughout the summer?!   It is a great time to take a walk around the yard and check for any containers that might holding water where mosquitoes lay their eggs.  Yes, even a flowerpot saucer!  Anything from a bottle cap, drainpipes, gutters, kids’ toys, pet food dishes, bird baths can be an attractive place for a mosquito to lay her eggs.  Check for mosquito larvae then dump and drain.  Outdoor accessories such as bird baths should be cleaned and emptied every three to five days to break the mosquito life cycle.

Protect yourself from mosquito bites

Avoid being outside when mosquitoes are most active, between dawn and dusk.

Use an EPA registered insect repellent that contains DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus or any number of other approved ingredients.

Wear long sleeves and pants when working outside.

Try using a fan in outdoor spaces.

Empty standing water.
