MCPO and East Hanover Police Dept Confirm Fatal Fire Investigation

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker, and Chief Christopher F. Cannizzo of the East Hanover Police Department confirm the investigation of a fire occurring on Ward Place, in East Hanover, New Jersey on October 21, 2021.

At approximately 12:09 a.m., police and fire officials were dispatched to Ward Place on a report of a residential fire. Responders located an active fire to a single-family dwelling.

The investigation revealed that the origin of the fire was within a bedroom of the residence. Two residents were safely removed from the residence. A third resident was located deceased inside the home. The identity of the residents and the deceased individual will not be released at this time.

At this time, the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office does not anticipate any criminal charges being filed.

Prosecutor Carroll would like to thank the East Hanover Police Department, the East Hanover Fire Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson / Environmental Crimes Unit, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and all other mutual aid providers for their efforts in this matter.
