Surrogate's Office to Offer Online Education and Awareness Sessions

Published on September 03, 2020

The Morris County Surrogate's Court is proud to announce that it will offer the first of a continuing series of"Surrogate's Sessions" in a virtual format starting in September 2020.

The Surrogate Sessions are designed to provide Morris County residents with information on pertinent topics related to wills, estates, trusts, and probate matters. They will also detail improvements in Surrogate's Office procedures that are making it easier for clients to get their issues handled.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Surrogate Heather Darling began an education campaign that featured speaking engagements across Morris County. The goal was to ensure that county residents, especially senior citizens, special needs residents, and their families are aware of what the Surrogate's Court does and how it can be a resource for them.

"After several successful meetings, it became clear that more awareness is needed," said Surrogate Darling."The new Surrogate Sessions will provide enhanced information about the operation of the Surrogate's Court, with a "˜how to' component on topics germane to the Surrogate's Court such as how to prepare a simple will."

The first Surrogate's Session is scheduled on September 24th at Noon (12:00 P.M). Surrogate Darling and Deputy Surrogate Chris Luongo will discuss the importance of planning for the future, with a focus on"Drafting a Will."

"These sessions are designed to be informative, providing residents with tools to help with important life-planning decisions,'' said Luongo. In future sessions,  Surrogate Darling intends to host guest panelists and take questions from participants on topics such as family needs regarding dementia care services and retirement, trusts and estate planning.
