Brief Description of Job and Division/Department
The Morris County Youth Shelter provides safe temporary care to at risk adolescents ages 13 to 17. A structured, secure and clean environment provides residents with various clinical, educational life-skills and recreational activities to address their current crisis and enhance their lives. Adolescent Counselors are responsible for the direct supervision of the Shelter adolescent population. They assist socially, mentally and/or physically maladjusted adolescents by counseling and helping them deal effectively with problems while developing life skills. Additionally, they ensure an efficient and effective operation of the Shelter facility.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Duties may include: • Observes, listens to, and counsels adolescents to determine their problems and to assist them in dealing effectively with such problems. • Counsels residents individually and/or in groups. • Conducts short term individual counseling sessions in crisis situations. • Assists in carrying out therapeutic residential plans including personal hygiene, music therapy, art therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy. • Assists adolescents in a behavior modification program. • Performs field work such as attending court, taking adolescents on field trips, and visiting agencies to gather information. • Attends meetings to discuss problems and progress of individual adolescents. • Writes necessary reports as requested by the Shelter administration. • Maintains order and security within the facility. • Maintains necessary records and files. • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the Shelter. • Assists in the maintenance and cleanliness of the Shelter Facility and property. • Required to work a variety of shifts and days to staff a twenty four hour seven day a week operation.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Education, or related field. Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver's license. Interested candidates please submit resume and/or supporting documents with your application.
