Brief Description of Job and Division/Department
The County of Morris, Division of Public Health is seeking a fulltime (40 hours per week) Environmental Health Specialist. Position includes excellent benefits package.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under supervision and direction, the employee:
Performs field surveys, investigations, inspections, and prepares formal reports pertaining to the County Environmental Health Act (CEHA) regulations governing, air, hazardous substances, noise, solid waste, and/or water.
Performs field tests, collects samples, and analyzes findings to obtain environmental data and to sources and methods of controlling pollutants.
Confers with municipal and county environmental health officials along with public and industry personnel to promote understanding of and compliance with environmental health rules and regulations.
Initiates and completes enforcement action including preparation of notices and provides testimony during legal proceedings.
Maintains accurate paper and electronic records of surveys, investigations, and inspections performed.
May respond to emergency situations.
The position may require evening and/or weekend activities
A bachelor’s degree in physical, chemical, biological, environmental science or environmental engineering is required. A minimum of one (1) year of environmental control work is required. The required experience may be waived for a candidate holding a graduate degree in the fields indicated above. NJ Department of Health licensure as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS, certification as a NJ Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, Hazardous Materials Technician 80 hour course, and/or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) credential a plus.
