Description of Job and Division/Department
The Morris County GIS Division is seeking a GIS Specialist III to support the County’s GIS needs. Candidates will prepare, revise, and maintain a wide variety of computer-generated maps and cartographic products; perform research, analyses and data collection; and assist in providing technical assistance to County staff.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County staff and the public.
- Candidates must be well organized, and have the ability to plan, research, and execute a wide range of solutions to problems that require geospatial consideration with the GIS Team and with other County agencies.
- This position’s responsibilities will also include learning and working with Morris County's Web GIS platform using ESRI’s ArcGIS Online and Enterprise ArcGIS Server applications and tools.
- Candidates with knowledge and experience in web application development will be favored.
Two (2) years of experience with geographic information systems including computer graphics and computer hardware digitizing procedures. NOTE: A Master's degree in Geography, or Environmental Science including or supplemented by the additional credits indicated below may be substituted for one (1) year of the indicated experience. NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis. NOTE: A specific Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science or related field with twelve (12) semester hours in computer mapping/GIS which shall have included spatial programming and digital image processing may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience. LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
