Be a scientist for a day -- no matter your age -- during the first annual BioBlitz Morris Nature Festival.

The event will be held in Lewis Morris County Park on Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

During a BioBlitz, participants find and identify as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. Using an app on your smart phone, participants will upload their discoveries to a central repository that allows Whippany River Watershed Action Committee to record and track the biodiversity of the selected area. It’s like a giant scavenger hunt, but better because you may discover a surprise, such as an unexpected animal, plant, or even a new species.

Additional events include the "Early Bird Special” bird walk at 7 a.m. The Morris County Park Commission will lead a restoration and planting projects walk at 11:15 a.m. Entertainment and live music include Rizzo’s Reptiles, Dove Environmental, the Grand Falloons and Steve Carter Music. More than a dozen exhibitors will teach everything from soil management to invasive species to fly fishing!

Additional workshop presenters are invited to apply. Contact [email protected].

BioBlitz Morris Nature Festival is organized in conjunction with the Morris County Park Commission

The mission of the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee is to preserve, protect and maintain the Whippany River Watershed. WRWAC organizes river clean ups, community events, water quality testing programs, internships and restoration projects to preserve, protect and maintain the Whippany River. The WRWAC is sponsored by Investors Foundation, MCMUA, Burnham Park Association, Toyota of Morristown, Unity Charter School, Morristown-Beard School and Earth Echo International.
