One Lane in Each Direction & All Ramps to Open By Morning

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced today that the Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15 in Jefferson will reopen at 7 a.m. tomorrow.

There will be one lane available in each direction and all ramps to and from Route 15 will be reopened as well. Normally the bridge carries two lanes in each direction. The bridge was closed on Dec. 20, 2020 because of cracks in two beams. At the time, the NJDOT also had to close the southbound Route 15 lanes.

While the left lane on Route 15 southbound was reopened on December 23, occasional detours were required to be put in place as work continued. The damaged portion of the bridge was removed and all lanes on Route 15 were reopened on March 7.

Since then, the NJDOT completed repairs to strengthen three beams and monitored the structure to ensure it was safe to reopen. The department will continue to monitor the bridge. A long-term replacement plan is in the process of being designed.

The NJDOT said work is being expedited with construction expected to begin in the spring of 2022.

Advanced utility relocation is underway.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information. For NJDOT news follow them on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT and Facebook.
