Black History Month Celebration

The Morris County Human Relations Commission will celebrate the history of Americans of African Descent through a unique Facebook Live program on February 25th at 4:30. You can join in on this educational event through the join link below.

Dr. Forrest Pritchett, Director Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program, and Africana Studies, Seton Hall University, and Author, Educator/Psychologist Yvette Long, will explore the timeline and benefits of including the history of Americans of African Descent in mainstream education in the classroom. Why has the teaching of the long history of Americans of African Descent- a four hundred plus history that goes to the deepest roots of the American Story- been largely ignored and even suppressed? Despite the work and will of educators, activists, and innovative programs like the 1619 Project and the Amistad Law, this core aspect of American history remains marginalized. With the rise of hate crimes and displaced anger, a change in the lens of how we view people who are different, especially Americans of African Descent, is essential. Enlightenment begins with knowledge, which has the power to change perceptions.
