It was with great pleasure that Rabbi Moshe Rudin, Chair of the Morris County Human Relations Commission, and Treasurer, Susan J. Waldman, attended the annual New Year celebration of the NNJCA Chinese School at Montville High School.  We were welcomed by the Principal of the Chinese School, Jerry Chen, and treated as VIPs.  The program began with many awards and presentations, including remarks from Bianca Wang, Director of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. "This school is not a place for language, it's the center of culture," Wang said. "It is an open learning development rooted in democracy and freedom [...] I really thank all the teachers and the parents. You are helping to keep our heritage alive and making a bridge between communities."

Rabbi Rudin also spoke and expressed the position of the Human Relations Commission when he said, "This has been a very challenging year for all of us.  We are feeling troubled. We are feeling called upon to stand up as Americans and as people of good will.”  We must "Stand together for freedom, for democracy, for equality, for inclusion, and for welcoming in all of our immigrant societies.”

The program concluded with the always delightful and joyous student performances, after which all were invited to the cafeteria for a delicious spread of Chinese specialties.  It was a well-spent, lovely, afternoon with wishes for a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
