Morris County Surrogate Heather J. Darling this week met with members of the Golden Age Club of Milton in Jefferson Township to discuss important topics related to estate planning and the probate process. The meeting took place in a festive atmosphere, as members were dressed in creative Halloween costumes ranging from a doctor and a witch to “SantaPause,” the Grand Poobah of the Water Buffalo Lodge from The Flinstones, Mrs. Roper from Three's Company and even one gentleman sporting a pet tarantula on his head.

During her presentation, Surrogate Darling provided valuable insight into the role of the Surrogate’s Court and explained key concepts such as Letters Testamentary and why they are essential for executors handling an estate. She also discussed the benefits of having a self-proving will over other types of wills, emphasizing how this can simplify the probate process and reduce delays for families.

Surrogate Darling further addressed questions surrounding minor accounts, designated beneficiaries, and the importance of having a valid will. She emphasized how proper planning can prevent complications for loved ones and ensure that a person’s wishes are honored. The discussion encouraged attendees to take proactive steps in managing their affairs and underscored the Surrogate’s Court’s ongoing commitment to public education and community outreach throughout Morris County.
