Morris County Surrogate Heather Darling visited Camp Jefferson this week to meet with Jefferson Township’s senior residents and provide an informative overview of the essential roles and services offered by the Morris County Surrogate’s Office. Surrogate Darling addressed a full audience of local seniors, explaining the responsibilities of her office in matters such as probating wills, estate administration, guardianships, and adoption proceedings.

During the session, Surrogate Darling emphasized the importance of proactive estate planning and shared insights on topics frequently encountered by families in the Surrogate’s Court. She discussed the benefits of having a self-proving will, as well as considerations surrounding testamentary trusts. Surrogate Darling also touched on the potential impact of sunsetting tax provisions on estate plans.

The event fostered a productive and engaging dialogue, underscoring the Surrogate’s ongoing efforts to educate residents and make the process as clear and accessible as possible. Surrogate Darling took time to answer questions from the audience, offering clarity on a range of topics from living wills to the probate process.
