Morris County Surrogate Heather J. Darling spoke to the Roxbury Rotary Club last week, outlining her ongoing initiatives to modernize probate practices in New Jersey. She discussed her legislation currently pending in the New Jersey Statehouse that would permit the creation and probate of electronic wills, already allowed in 15 other states nationwide, to meet the needs of today’s residents. Surrogate Darling also shared highlights from the Morris County Surrogate’s Court 2024 Annual Report, noting progress in making services more efficient and accessible for the public.
In addition, Surrogate Darling emphasized the importance of expanded access to her office’s services. She spoke about reduced attorney referral services and explained how residents are now able to probate a will or administer an estate electronically through the Surrogate’s Court. By addressing both legislative reforms and local service improvements, she underscored her commitment to ensuring that Morris County families can navigate probate and estate matters with greater ease, flexibility, and confidence.
