Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker announce the hiring of Thomas J. Laird as Detective and Ernest Giampietro as Prosecutor’s Agent/Chief of Staff for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Detective Laird will be assigned to the High Tech Crimes Unit within the Special Operations Division. On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, Prosecutor Carroll and Chief Kimker administered the oath of office to Det. Laird.

Detective Laird previously served in the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office between February 2007 and July 2013. Assigned to the Support Services and Forfeiture Unit, Detective Laird served as Deputy Counter Terrorism Coordinator and on the Rapid Deployment Team. Most recently, he served as a detective for the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Having served 27 years in the New Jersey State Police, Prosecutor’s Agent/Chief of Staff Giampietro has joined the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. A former Major and Troop Commander for the NJSP, Prosecutor’s Agent/Chief of Staff Giampietro has received numerous commendations and letters of appreciation during his law enforcement career, including a Commandant’s Award, and held several positions, including training instructor and Chairperson for the Promotional Board for the NJSP.

Prosecutor’s Agent/Chief of Staff Giampietro was presented with his credentials on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

Acting Prosecutor Carroll said, “These two new hires are examples of our efforts to recruit specially-experienced and well-respected law enforcement officers who will greatly enhance the MCPO mission.  Det. Laird brings specialized technological skills that are much in-demand in modern criminal investigations.  Agent/Chief of Staff Giampietro brings a wealth of organizational and logistical experience, having commanded some of the busiest NJ State Police Troops who patrolled the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.”

Chief Kimker stated, “Both men will be playing key roles as we continue to build the best prosecutorial agency possible, including implementing the first-in-the-nation new police policies and operational reforms set forth in recent Attorney General Directives.”
