Authorities Confirm Drowning Death of Child in Roxbury

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone announce and confirm an investigation into the drowning death of a child.

On July 12, 2023, at approximately 3:37 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to a residence in the Flanders section of Roxbury on a report of an 8-year-old male juvenile found face down in a nearby creek. Attempts were made by the Roxbury Township Police Department and paramedics to resuscitate the child but were unsuccessful. The child was transferred to St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, where he was pronounced deceased.

While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident has been deemed not suspicious at this time. As the deceased is a juvenile, no further identifying information will be provided.

Out of consideration for the child’s family, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office ask for the public to respect their privacy.

The incident is being investigated by the Roxbury Township Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
