Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone announce a missing 20-year-old man was found deceased in Sunset Lake.

Altariq Hickson was last seen at his residence in Roxbury on March 6, 2024. He was reported missing on March 12. A missing persons investigation was launched by Roxbury Police Department.

Hickson’s personal effects were discovered on Mine Hill Beach. A search of the area was conducted by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management. A subsequent search of Sunset Lake by the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) led to the recovery of a body on March 19, believed to be the missing man.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the remains. The body was later confirmed to be Hickson by the MCMEO. The MCMEO determined the cause of death to be drowning and the manner of death to be accidental.

While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident has been deemed not suspicious at this time.
