Clifton Man Arrested for Luring, Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Boonton Township Police Chief Thomas L. Cacciabeve announce that Brian Stewart, 41, Clifton, New Jersey, has been charged with Luring, Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault, Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

It is alleged that between March 18 through March 27, 2024, Stewart engaged in sexual communications with two children on KIK Messenger and made plans to meet up with the children in Boonton Township for the purpose of having sexual intercourse.  The defendant utilized the username “Brian Being Brian” on KIK Messenger to exchange sexual communications with the victims.  The incident remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time.  The names and identities of the juvenile victims will not be released.

As a result of the investigation, Stewart has been charged with two counts of second degree Luring in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-6, four counts of second degree Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of  N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1(a)(3)/2C:14-2(a)(1), one count of second degree Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1(a)(3)/N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)(3), and two counts of third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(a)(1).  

Pursuant to the Criminal Justice Reform Act, Stewart has been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings.

Numerous law enforcement agencies have participated in this investigation, including members of the Boonton Township Police Department, the Town of Boonton Police Department, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite these accusations, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
