Former West Morris Central High School Teacher Pleads Guilty to Official Misconduct and Criminal Sexual Contact

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp announces that David Scheck, 31 years old, of North Brunswick, New Jersey, pled guilty today to Third Degree Official Misconduct and Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Contact. The defendant admitted to sending text messages and Instant Messages, which were sexual in nature, to the victim when she was 15 years old and he was a 24 year old music teacher at West Morris Central High School. He also admitted to contacting the victim's genital area for the purpose of sexual gratification. The defendant's actions took place in 2007.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, the State will recommend that the defendant be sentenced to 5 years in State Prison with 2 years parole ineligibility and Megan's Law Registration. Further, defendant is not to have contact with the victim, will forfeit his teacher's license and will not hold public employment in the future.
Assistant Prosecutor/SDAG LaJuan Tucker represented the State in the plea agreement.
The Honorable Mary Gibbons Whipple, J.S.C. presided over the plea. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on July 18, 2014.
