Investigation into a Death at Budd Lake

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker and Mount Olive Police Department Chief Stephen Beecher confirm the investigation into a death at Budd Lake in Mount Olive, New Jersey.

On March 13, 2021 at approximately 10:41 p.m., the Parsippany Police Department contacted the Mount Olive Township Police Department for assistance in locating a missing person.  The missing elderly male’s vehicle was located in a private parking lot adjacent to Budd Lake. 

An extensive search utilizing the New Jersey State Police Air Unit, NJSP TEAMS Unit, NJSP Marine Unit, members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Olive Police Officers and the assistance of volunteers from the Budd Lake Fire Department, Budd Lake First Aid and Rescue and the Flanders Fire Department was conducted. 

During the morning hours of March 14, members of the NJ State Police TEAMS Unit and NJ State Police Marine Unit located the elderly male in the ice and he was deceased.  The man’s body was recovered from the ice and the Medical Examiner’s Office is completing the investigation. The incident is not suspected to be criminal at this time.

Out of respect and consideration for family, the deceased individual’s name will not be released at this time.
