On June 20, 2022, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood, and Chief of Detectives Chris Kimker issued a commendation to Agent Gary Gouck for his accomplishments during his (20) year career with the office.
During his (47) years in law enforcement, of which the last (20) were with the MCPO, Agent Gouck has been a leader and expert in the field of vehicular homicide investigation. His law enforcement career began in 1975 at the Randolph Township Police Department where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 2002. Subsequently, he joined the MCPO and instituted a complete overhaul of the Vehicular Homicide Unit to improve efficiency and effectiveness of such investigations. Throughout his career, Agent Gouck has investigated thousands of motor vehicle crashes, of which (300) involved fatalities.
Agent Gouck continues to lead the field in motor vehicle crash investigation, and is the lead resource for law enforcement within Morris County. Moreover, he instructs crash investigation courses at the state level, and is active with federal crash reconstruction organizations. Agent Gouck has also directly participated in the training and guidance of over (35) law enforcement officers who serve in Morris County, which has increased the experience level of crash reconstruction investigators and ultimately enhanced the quality of service provided to the public. Municipal Police Officers, State Troopers, County Detectives and Assistant Prosecutors statewide often consult him for guidance in investigating and reconstructing serious motor vehicle crashes.
Prosecutor Carroll said, “The experience and institutional knowledge that Agent Gouck brings to the table has been instrumental in the effectiveness of our Vehicular Homicide Unit. Understanding the value of sharing this experience and knowledge, Agent Gouck makes it a point to actively mentor other investigators in this specialty field to ensure unit success for years to come.”
