Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Christoph K. Kimker, and First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood announce that the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson and Environmental Crimes Unit has been presented with the Investigation Unit of the Year award from the New Jersey Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators. In addition, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Supervisor Luis Goncalves received the Investigator of the Year award.

The awards were presented to MCPO unit members on March 3, 2022 at their 2022 Annual General Meeting and Training Conference in Atlantic City.

The Unit award is presented to one New Jersey investigation unit annually which has shown outstanding achievement through the use of professional expertise in both the criminal and civil fields of fire investigation. The Investigator award is presented to an individual who has shown outstanding achievement through the use of professional expertise in the field of fire investigation.

Prosecutor Carroll said, “The dedicated men and women of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson and Environmental Crimes Unit have deservedly received this recognition for exemplifying excellence in these type of investigations that require specialized, police investigational, technical and forensic skillsets in protecting our communities from such a destructive form of criminal conduct.”

Chief Kimker said, “I was impressed with the turnout at the 2022 IAAI Conference. Fire Investigation continues to evolve as a science and an investigative field, evidenced by the Conference schedule of events and lineup of speakers.  I was proud to represent the MCPO, as we were the recipient of both individual and unit awards. The MCPO has always had a strong Arson Unit that was built on the basic required training for both legal and investigative members assigned. Continuing training is also encouraged at the MCPO, and detectives and assistant prosecutors in the Arson Unit stay up-to-date with the latest technological advances and criminal case law. I am happy to say that the MCPO Arson Unit is as good as it has ever been.”
