Man Arrested for Unlawfully Selling Handgun Seized at Morris Knolls

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Denville Police Chief Frank Perna, and Palmyra Police Chief Meghan Campbell announce the arrest of Dwayne E. Allen, 21, of Palmyra, New Jersey, following an incident where two students were found in possession of a handgun at Morris Knolls High School on March 23, 2023.

During the ongoing investigation into this incident, Detectives from the Denville Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office’s Homeland Security & Juvenile Units developed information that Dwayne Allen allegedly sold the firearm to a juvenile in Morris County during March 2023. 

Dwayne E. Allen, 21, was arrested on May 17, and lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility and charged with the following offenses:

  • Unlawful Sale of a Firearm to a Juvenile, a second degree offense, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-10e;
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, a second degree offense, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5b;
  • Transport of a firearm, a fourth degree offense, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-9d;
  • Unlawful Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine, a fourth degree offense, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-3j; and
  • Unlawful Sale of a High-Capacity Magazine, a fourth degree offense, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-9h.

There is no known connection between Allen and Morris Knolls High School.

Prosecutor Robert Carroll commends the Denville Police Department, the Palmyra Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police T.E.A.M.S. Central Unit, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms,  NJ Office of Homeland Security, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Juvenile and Homeland Security Units for their cooperative efforts resulting in this arrest. 

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
