Man Charged in Connection with April 25, 2020 Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Jefferson Township

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker, and Jefferson Township Police Chief Sean Conrad announce that Matthew Pulis, age 21, of Oak Ridge, New Jersey, has been charged in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in Jefferson Township on April 25, 2020.
It is alleged that Pulis was the driver of a motor vehicle involved in a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash that occurred in the area of mile marker 3 on Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township. Police responded to the area at approximately 7:45 a.m. A 21-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, the identity of this individual will not be released.
Pulis has been charged by summons-complaint with one (1) count of third degree Strict Liability Vehicular Homicide. He is scheduled for a court appearance on July 29, 2020.
Members of the Jefferson Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit contributed to this investigation.
The complaint against Pulis is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, this defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable double in a court of law.
