Published on April 09, 2019

On March 21, 2019, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Detective Supervisor Patrick LaGuerre, Long Hill Township Police Chief Ahmed Naga, Retired Judge Maryann Nergaard, NJ OAG Director of Community Engagement Rahat Babar, and Bernards Township Deputy Police Chief Michael Voorhees joined Congregation B'nai Israel in Basking Ridge and the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge for a prayer vigil in remembrance of those lost in the terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. The vigil was held at Congregation B'nai Israel in Basking Ridge, NJ.

The prayer service was organized by President of the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge, M. Ali Chaudry, and Rabbi Robert Green of Congregation B'nai Israel after several members of various clergies offered to stand in solidarity with the members of the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge. The interfaith community joined the service as an expression of solidarity during these troubling times.

Prosecutor Knapp said, We would like to thank President Chaudry and Rabbi Green for including our office in this beautiful service. It is important for our community partners to work together following a horrible incident, and it was inspiring to see the numerous community leaders in attendance. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of those hurt in the attacks in Christchurch.
