On March 15, 2019, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp delivered welcoming remarks at the Morris County Sheriff's Office Successful Transition and Re-Entry (STAR) simulation. He joined Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon, Morris County Freeholder Heather Darling, STAR Program Educator Melissa Maney, and STAR Program Social Worker Sierra McEniry in welcoming the numerous community members in attendance.
The STAR program is a joint effort between the Morris County Sheriff's Office and the Morris County Office of Temporary Assistance, created to reduce recidivism in Morris County. The simulation, held at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, was a hands-on experience created to provide participants with the hypothetical challenges that a formerly incarcerated individual may face upon release from incarceration. The simulated scenarios show how challenging it can be for a former incarcerated individual to get back on their feet following their release.
Prosecutor Knapp stated, I would like to thank Sheriff Gannon for inviting me to say a few words at this program. The STAR Program plays an important role in reducing recidivism in Morris County. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office shares the common goal of providing the safest possible community for our Morris County residents.
