Law enforcement executives, elected officials and religious leaders from across Morris County joined approximately 200 attendees for the Morris County Community Rally Against Hate, held at the Gottesman RTW Academy in Randolph on January 9, 2020. The rally was intended to bring members of the Morris County community together to stand united against hatred and bigotry that is currently targeting the Jewish community and other faiths in our state and nation.
Speakers included New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, Morris County Freeholder Director Deborah Smith, Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Rabbi Levi Dubinsky of Chabad Center of Northwest NJ, Basel Hamdeh of Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center in Boonton, Rev. Herman Scott of Calvary Baptist Church in Morristown, Chandu Bhoraniya of Swaminarayan Mandir in Parsippany, Rabbi Mendy Herson of Rabbinical College of New Jersey and Moshe Vaknin the Gottesman RTW Academy (GRTWA) Head of School. The GRTWA school choir also sang several songs at the beginning and end of the evening. Video messages were also provided by Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and State Senator Anthony Bucco.
Morris County Prosecutor Knapp said the event was intended to be a unity gathering:
As a member of the Jewish community, and County Prosecutor, I am deeply concerned about recent acts of Anti-Semitism. We stand together as a united force to protect all residents of Morris County and to prosecute those who would attack anyone because of their religion, race, national origin, gender or any other classification. If you see or hear of a bias incident, please report to law enforcement. Our office is here 24/7, Prosecutor Knapp told the attendees.
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office, the law enforcement officers you see here - and the ones you don't see here - are here for you. We stand with you. said Prosecutor Knapp.
