Morris County Prosecutor's Office Joins NJSBA Webcast on Virtual Court Proceedings During COVID-19

Morris County Prosecutor's Office Assistant Prosecutor Reema Sethi Kareer, under the direction of Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, joined a live webcast on June 26, 2020 on how remote and virtual criminal court proceedings are conducted during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The June 26, 2020 webcast was hosted by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, a division of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Joining Assistant Prosecutor Reema Sethi Kareer on the panel were the Hon. Sohail Mohammed JSC, of Passaic County Superior Court, Criminal Part; Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Benjamin Forrest; Chair of the NJSBA Criminal Law Section, Brandon D. Minde; and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Robert G. Stahl.

Through mock proceedings, panelists demonstrated how remote and virtual criminal court was being conducted at various stages, such as CJP court/detention hearings, discovery conferences, plea hearings, oral arguments, expert testimony, bench and jury trials and sentencings. They offered advice for how to transition to a seamless virtual court experience.

Prosecutor Knapp said, We are very fortunate to have the technology to conduct thousands of virtual court proceedings throughout New Jersey. Assistant Prosecutor Kareer has become a leader of the New Jersey Bar Association, of whom we are very proud.
