During National Police Week, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker recognize the law enforcement officers from Morris County or serving in Morris County who have died in the line of duty. National Police Week is recognized this year from May 10 until May 16, 2020.
First created by presidential proclamation in 1962, National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15, honors law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving their states, counties and communities.
Thirty law enforcement officers are among the 43 names of police officers, firefighters and rescue personnel memorialized on the 200 Club of Morris County monument located at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.
Prosecutor Knapp said remembering National Police Week is especially important right now, as law enforcement officers continue to work on the front lines during this COVID-19 emergency.
Prosecutor Knapp said Especially during this pandemic we owe a great debt of gratitude to those officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. They lost their lives protecting us for which we are eternally grateful. My deepest heartfelt condolences to their families in recognition of their service. May their memories always be a blessing.
