MCPO Members Commended for Bias & Bullying School Outreach Program

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood, and Chief of Detectives Robert McNally recognized Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Samantha DeNegri and Sergeant Patrick LaGuerre for their creation and implementation of a Statewide Bias Crimes Awareness curriculum for both grade school and high school aged students.
The ongoing series of presentations, hosted by Sgt. LaGuerre and SAP DeNegri, have included public and private schools throughout Morris, Essex, Sussex, Warren, and Union counties. Students are taught about bias issues, cyber harassment, and about the importance of exercising good judgement when it comes to what they share online and how they treat others in school.
SAP DeNegri and Sgt. LaGuerre were also recognized by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin in January for this educational program.
Sgt. LaGuerre and SAP DeNegri were commended for their commitment to duty, professionalism, and the selfless efforts in educating community members about bias incidents and crimes.
Prosecutor Carroll said, “This curriculum has not only been presented to schools throughout Morris County but also districts throughout the State of New Jersey, as well. Your efforts have been recognized, culminating with you being a recipient of the Bias Crime Officers Association Distinguished Service Award.”
“It is critical to address bias with our youth before these bad faith ideals take root. Teenagers are growing up in a very connected digital world, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office seeks to enable our students to make smart choices about how they interact online and in school. We hope this program will serve as a model for other counties.”
