Mount Olive Man Charged with Sexual Assault of a Minor, Endangering

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker, and Mount Olive Police Department Chief Stephen Beecher, announce the filing of criminal charges against Joseph Guzman, age 42, of Mount Olive, New Jersey.  

The defendant was arrested on November 23, 2022, following an investigation conducted by the Mount Olive Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.  It is alleged that on August 10, 2022, the defendant sexually assaulted a sixteen-year-old female victim at Joseph Vincent’s Salon in Mount Olive.  The defendant was the victim’s employer and supervisor at the salon.

The defendant was charged with one count of second-degree Sexual Assault of a victim who was at least 16 years old but less than 18 years old, where the defendant had supervisory power over the victim, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(c)(3)(b), one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(a)(1), and four counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3(b).  

Following a detention hearing on November 28, 2022, the defendant was released from custody under pre-trial monitoring, including no unsupervised contact with minors.

Prosecutor Carroll would like to thank the Mount Olive Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office for their efforts in the investigation and arrest of this defendant.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
