NJOHSP Hosts Active Threat Seminar at County College of Morris in Partnership with Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Local Law Enforcement Agencies

Published on October 29, 2018

On October 26, 2018 the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) held an Active Threat Seminar at the County College of Morris (CCM). Brian Onieal State Exercise Coordinator of the NJOHSP Training and Exercise Unit provided an approximately one and one half hour presentation on preparing for the threat of an active shooter at the CCM campus. The seminar was attended by over 100 professors and administrators of the college.

Following the training portion of the event, the audience had the opportunity for a question and answer session with a panel of five members of local law enforcement. The panel consisted of Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sergeant Michael Gomez, Morris County Sheriff's Office Chief Edward Crooker, Lieutenant Will Harzula of the Randolph Police Department, CCM Director of Public Safety Harvey Jackson, and CCM Assistant Director of Public Safety John Fichter. Those in attendance eagerly participated in the question and answer session, raising concerns about what they felt needed to be addressed, as well as sharing their ideas for making CCM safer.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, who was in attendance, said, Brian Onieal and the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness held a wonderful and informative program for this great group of educational professionals at CCM. As the Morris County Prosecutor's Office continues to work with all of our law enforcement partners in ensuring all students throughout Morris County are kept safe, it is crucial that we keep all of our schools and colleges prepared as well.
