On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) of New Jersey and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety hosted their annual statewide program in which they recognize members of law enforcement throughout New Jersey, who have gone above and beyond their typical duties in the fight to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. For the past thirty-eight years, MADD has worked to serve victims of impaired driving by providing emotional support, education, and guidance. Their work along with the work of law enforcement throughout New Jersey, have kept our roads, streets, and highways safe by stopping impaired drivers.
Morris County First Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Zelante attended the program held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick on behalf of the Morris County Prosecutors Office. Approximately 400 members of law enforcement were in attendance, including 40 police officers from 27 different municipalities in Morris County. The focus of the event was Saving Lives by Preventing Crashes. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from individuals who have dealt with this personally or through their work including, MADD National President Colleen Sheehey-Church, Deputy Superintendent of Operations of the New Jersey State Police Lt. Colonel Jeffrey Mottley, and Edward O'Connor of the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
First Assistant Prosecutor Zelante said, The police officers of Morris County who were honored here today, deserve this recognition. Their extraordinary efforts to create safer roadways throughout Morris County speaks volumes of the police officers at work in our community.
