October Proclaimed as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Morris County

On October 7, 2019, at the Morris County Freeholders Work Session Meeting, the Board of Chosen Freeholders proclaimed the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Morris County. Dianne Williams, President of Jersey Battered Women's Services (JBWS) Morristown, NJ and Diana Kurlander Vice President of JBWS, were in attendance to accept the proclamation. Members of their staff were also recognized.

In recognition and support of the Jersey Battered Women's Services, members of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, including Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, First Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Zelante, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood, Supervising Assistant Prosecutor of the Domestic Violence Unit Tia Manochio, and Victim Witness Advocate Michelle Leone attended. Following the issuance of the proclamation, Prosecutor Knapp discussed the legacy of Morris County JBWS, the Family Justice Center, and the integral role their members play in providing essential services to survivors of domestic violence.

Prosecutor Knapp stated, Domestic violence continues to plague our communities. To effectively serve survivors of domestic violence we continue to vigilantly prosecute defendants charged with such offenses. I applaud the Board of Chosen Freeholders for issuing this proclamation, which will help to keep this important issue on the minds of our residents.
