Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Brad Seabury Deliver Opioid Presentation to Municipal Welfare Organization

On November 18, 2018, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Brad Seabury, and Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon provided an Opioid 101 presentation to members of the Municipal Welfare Organization at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities 103rd Annual Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The program was attended by approximately 30 members of the Municipal Welfare Organization, who came from various counties throughout the state.
The Opiates 101 presentation provided the audience with information on how the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic is affecting New Jersey, as well as what members of law enforcement are doing to combat this, such as the Morris County Prosecutor's Office recent successful Operation Take Back initiative. In Operation Take Back, residents were encouraged to turn in unwanted or expired prescription medicine to be properly destroyed. Community education is a crucial component to combatting this, and sharing this information with the community leaders in attendance will ultimately have a positive impact throughout the State.
Sheriff Gannon discussed his Hope One program, a mobile recovery access vehicle which offers support for persons struggling with addiction. Twice a week, Hope One travels to locations throughout Morris County with a Sheriff's officer, a licensed clinician, and a peer recovery specialist to recovery services. Alton Robinson, a representative of Community Recovery Center, also spoke about his efforts in coordinating recovery services for those who suffering from addiction.
Prosecutor Knapp said, The Heroin and Opioid Epidemic continues to be a scourge on the citizens of New Jersey. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office will continue to combat this through our various initiatives and our strong focus on educating the public.
