TELE-COMMUNICATOR – “PST / EMD Continuing Education CEU 8 hours for PST / EMD
Emergency Medical Dispatching 3-Hours
CTE Block #1 Emergency Medical Dispatching 3-Hours Objective: Ensuring the Emergency Medical Dispatcher has a working knowledge and current understanding of the topics involving EMD listed below.
-Review any NJ-EMD Card updates -Review of NJ-EMD Cards and Card navigation – Hardcopy or Computer copy -Simulate processing medical calls using the NJ-EMD Cards -Review and process the use of a Tourniquet -Review of Chief Complaint selection based on caller statements
CTE Block #2 TTY Refresher for the 9-1-1 Dispatcher 1-Hours Objective: Slideshow with audio discussing types of devices and applications that can be used to contact 9-1-1.
CTE Block #3 – N.E.C.I. Domestic Violence Calls
Duration: 4 Hours
Objective: Provide dispatchers with key terms, definitions, and situational factors related to domestic violence incidents.
Topics Include:
• Review of domestic violence dynamics
• Dispatcher roles and responsibilities during 9-1-1 calls
• Domestic violence call-handling techniques, with and without associated medical emergencies
Prerequisites:
- Able to read and write at a high school graduate or GED level.
- Current certification through any state approved 911 Basic Communications training program.
- Current CPR Certification.
- CPR card must be the level of a Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider as issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross (ARC), the National Safety Council (NSC), or other entity determined by the Department to comply with AHA CPR guidelines.
- CPR certifications must be obtained through an instructor led program with skills verification, a written examination, and include both one and two rescuer CPR (infant, child & adult), use of a bag-valve mask ventilation device (BVM) and semi-automatic external defibrillator (SAED) training.
On the first day of class student must bring a copy of their current 911 Basic Communications certification and a copy of their CPR card.
