PTC 10 Day Defensive Tactics Instructor Course

Overview: 

• This physically demanding course is designed to familiarize and certify law enforcement personnel to instruct trainees in the defensive tactics techniques required and approved by the NJ Police Training Commission.  This course will follow the material found in the PTC Defensive Tactics Manual.  

Pre-requisites:

• Signed approval from the participant's Chief/Sheriff/Prosecutor or designee confirming attendance for all 10 days of the course
• Medical clearance form signed by the attendee and agency executive is mandated prior to the start of the course as this is a physically demanding course.  Prospective Defensive Tactics Instructors should be maintaining an above average level of physical fitness to teach a subject and provide a proper example to students

Required equipment:

Each participant is to provide their own equipment as follows:

• PT Gear 
• Mixed Martial Art (MMA) gloves
• 16 Ounce Boxing Gloves
• mouthpiece
• protective headgear
• mat shoes/wrestling shoes if preferred but not mandated
• Water Bottle 

Class size is limited to 25 

Limited to two officers per department 

Required:  A medical form must be completed before start of course. This form will be emailed to each registered student along with their confirmation. 

Prerequisites: Must be physically fit and possess a high degree of maturity, leadership, judgment, and professionalism. Students will be required to pass the PTC Academy Physical Fitness Assessment on the first day of the course.

1. Vertical Jump (15 Inch)
2. Sit -Up (28)
3. 300 Meter Sprint (70.1 Seconds)
4. Push-ups (24)
5. Mile and 1/2 (15:55)

Background in grappling or defensive tactics is highly recommended
