Prescription Drug Drop Box Program

Dispose of prescription drugs safely! Bring your unused or expired prescription drugs to participating towns.

This program is for residents only. Doctors’ offices, pharmacies, and other medical institutions must dispose of drugs via FDA/DEA guidelines.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Medical Collection Unit was started in 2013 in collaboration with Barbra Kaufman and the Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris.

Each police department contacts the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and together the prescription medications are collected.  The designated municipal police officer and a Sheriff’s Officer collect the medications from the locked boxes that are kept in the lobbies of the local municipal police departments. Once the medications are collected they are brought back to our Evidence Unit and are logged and stored until destruction.

To date, we have destroyed over 12,000 pounds of prescription medications. The Morris County Sheriff’s Office has been working with Barbra Kaufman in expanding our program to additional towns.  This program allows people to discard their medications in a safe and secure location.

Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris

Funded by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris (CCHSM) is a county-wide prevention coalition made up of an association of individuals and organizations that collaborate in the delivery of environmental strategies to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) in Morris County.

Our Mission

The mission of Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris is to prevent and reduce substance use throughout the lifespan in Morris County through collaboration, education and community-wide change, giving priority to youth under the age of 18 and young adults between the ages of 18-25.

Our Goals

  • To strengthen collaboration among the Morris County prevention infrastructure.
  • To increase citizen participation and commitment among all sectors of the region towards reducing substance use and abuse in Morris County.
