Morris County Sheriff's Office Hope One Team To Host Virtual Community Narcan Training on May 22

The Morris County Sheriff's Office Hope One team has adapted to social distancing mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic by engaging with community residents in need through telephone connections and virtual trainings conducted through Zoom.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for a free virtual community training via Zoom on May 22, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. about the administration of Narcan to reverse an opioid overdose and the Hope One resources. To register, please contact Al Shurdom at [email protected].

On May 1, the Hope One team provided virtual Narcan training to 33 people -- including front-line responders from the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris and New Bridge Services Inc.

Hope One, launched on April 3, 2017, is a partnership between the Morris County Sheriff's Office, the Center for Addiction Recovery, Education and Success (CARES), Prevention Is Key, Morris County Department of Human Services and the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris.

A mobile addiction and mental health resource and recovery program, Hope One is manned by Coordinator and Morris County Sheriff's Office Corporal Erica Valvano, a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist from CARES, and a mental health specialist. Since its launch, Hope One teams have made 10,764 contacts with individuals and trained at least 2,352 people on how to administer Narcan.
