Description

Under supervisor direction, the Maintenance Repairer at Morris County Law & Public Safety Division of Weights & Measures will conduct routine building inspections, diagnose problems, recommend repair solutions, and perform internal or external maintenance repairs to ensure building safety and operation efficiency. Assists with vendor scheduling and monitors vendor progress. Morris County Weights & Measures Division’s mission is to safeguard the interest of the public in all matters concerning commercial transactions of commodities sold to consumers and businesses, which involve the determination of net quantities, pricing, fair competition, and equity in the marketplace. Morris County Weights & Measures also conducts unannounced inspections and tests of all commercial weighing, measuring, timing, and counting devices.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Independently performs several routine maintenance and repair projects involved in masonry, drywall, plastering, carpentry, painting, plumbing, sheet metal, and other projects like carpet title replacement or fence repairs.

Performs various related duties as required. Some examples of related duties may include:

  • Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment.
  • Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, clean or replace window blinds and ceiling fixtures using power tools.
  • Moves furniture and sets up tables and chairs in conference rooms.
  • Tidies working areas by arranging equipment, materials, and fleet vehicles in an orderly manner.
  • Maintains water coolers, empties trash cans or recyclables and power washes fleet vehicles.
  • Keeps repair or maintenance records and safety data sheets for onsite chemicals to support Right-To-Know survey. Pull weeds, trims hedges, and spread mulch around shrubs.
  • Orders fuel for fleet vehicles and liaise with janitorial vendors, HVAC and other vendors.

Shift Work: Monday-Friday (7:30am-4pm)

Qualifications

Preferred experience in the repair maintenance of offices and buildings. Experience operating power tools and small engines or equipment. Appointees are required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.  Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. Able to communicate in English and possesses basic to intermediate MS Office computer skills, preferred. Able to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions and to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and demonstrations.
