Description of Job and Division/Department

The County of Morris is seeking a qualified candidate to work in the Office of Planning and Preservation. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assistance in the administration of all sections of the Morris County Office of Planning & Preservation
  • Assistance in the development of Planning Studies
  • Ability to do occasional field work/site visits as necessary to support various planning initiatives
  • Attend and facilitate Morris County Planning Board (MCPB) meetings
  • Assists other office staff with assignments/tasks as needed
  • Correspondence with municipal planning and zoning representatives
  • Maintain essential files (digital and hard copy)

Qualifications

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and efficiently and with a team under minor supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including ability to work with MS Access or similar database applications and MS Outlook
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position
  • Maintains records and files, both digital and hard copy. Ability to move and lift files and reorganize as appropriate. 

Examples of work:

  • Prepares written invitations, correspondence for engaging stakeholders in meetings, workshops and other events.
  • Reviews and checks assigned reports, applications, and other documents for corrections and completeness; refers problems to a lead worker or supervisor for resolution
  • Receives applications, documents, forms, plans, ordinances and fees; screens, sorts, catalogs/files and assembles this information for further processing
  • Preparation of meeting minutes, coordination of MCPB pre and post-meeting activities
  • Maintains prepared mailing and contact lists
  • Assists with gathering of technical planning data and research to support report development and analysis
  • Aids in running virtual/hybrid meetings; including when necessary electronic or manual recording systems
  • Responds to public requests for information and coordinates with the appropriate planning staff to obtain required information
  • Review local/regional online web sources for articles/news etc. related to the Office’s activities
  • Assists with maintaining digital content by updating webpages, producing basic newsletters and brochures

Requirements:

*Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.

Preferred but not required:

  • Two (2) years of administrative/similar public experience
  • Knowledge of County Planning and Municipal Planning Administration.
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements of a County Planning Department
  • Knowledge of Adobe products a plus but not required
