CCM Art Gallery Presents Beirut €“ Tallinn €“ New Orleans Opening Monday

Show is Part of the Legacy Project on War, Peace and Healing

The County College of Morris Art Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Beirut €“ Tallinn €“ New Orleans, featuring the works of artists Manal Abu-Shaheen and Terttu Uibopuu.

The exhibition is being offered as part of the college's Legacy Project, which this academic year is focusing on War, Peace and Healing. Over its seven years of existence, the Legacy Project at CCM has presented lectures and programming on a variety of important issues that impact the lives of students, faculty, staff, community members in Morris County and others.

The exhibition runs from Feb. 10 through March 30. The CCM Art Gallery is located in the Sherman H. Masten Learning Resource Center on CCM's Randolph campus, 214 Center Grove Road. The CCM Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Abu-Shaheen was born in 1982 in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, lives in Queens, NY., and teaches at The City College of New York. Her work focuses on the ways in which globalized communication bring idealized images from one culture in contact with the realities of another. Motivated by a lack of visual history of the landscape in Lebanon, she is building her own photographic archive of what Beirut looks like today.

Uibopuu was born in Estonian, the capital of Tallinn in 1984, lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., and teaches at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. In her work, she compares the cities of Tallinn and New Orleans and how they stand side-by-side with the hardships they have endured and the forces they have had to deal with.
