Morris County's 2019 countywide road resurfacing effort is in full swing, with milling, paving, guide rail, sidewalk, and ramp projects underway or set to start in numerous municipalities, as part of the Board of Freeholder's aggressive targeting of the county's vital road network.

Milling and paving should start soon on South Morris Street in Dover, South Street in Morris Township, and South Salem Street in Dover, Randolph and Victory Gardens.

Pre-paving infrastructure work is underway on a section of Littleton Road in Parsippany, from Route 10 to the Parsippany Road area, and on Comly Road/Ryerson Road in Lincoln Park and Pequannock.

This follows the recent completion of resurfacing projects on Mt. Arlington Boulevard in Roxbury and James Street in Harding and Morris Township.

In addition, the Board of Freeholders, at recent meetings, passed resolutions to allocate funds to pave portions of the following roads (starting the bid and contract process):

  • Chatham Borough and Florham Park: North Passaic Avenue
  • Chester Twp. and Randolph: North Road/Dover Chester Road
  • Long Hill: New Vernon Road
  • Long Hill: Division Avenue
  • Mendham Borough: Bernardsville Road and Hilltop Road
  • Mine Hill: Canfield Avenue
  • Mount Olive: Drakesdale Road
  • Pequannock: The Boulevard
  • Wharton: West and East Dewey Avenue
  • Wharton: North Main Street

Road closures and detours will be signed and coordinated with the local police. Work hours are coordinated with each municipality. Motorists should expect delays. Bicyclists are urged to seek alternate routes.

The county work is in addition to local and state road-improvement projects.

Upcoming Projects

  • Dover, South Morris Street: The 0.9-mile project runs from Route 46 to Millbrook Avenue. AJM Contractors of Clifton will be the contractor. The bid price is $510,961. Work is expected to start on May 13. The project includes milling, paving, guiderails, ramps, and striping work. Work hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A one-way detour is likely, with police and the contractor working out details.
  • Dover, Randolph, Victory Gardens, South Salem Street: The 1.1 mile project runs from E. Blackwell St. to Route 10. Schifano Construction of Middlesex is the contractor. The bid price is $650,320. Infrastructure work is underway. The project includes milling, paving, guiderails, ramps, and striping work. Work hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Parsippany, Littleton Road: The 1.7-mile project runs from Route 10 to Crestview Drive. Schifano Construction of Middlesex is the contractor. The bid price is $1,039,948. Infrastructure work is underway, with milling and paving to follow over the next two weeks. The project includes milling, paving, guiderails, ramps, and striping work. Work hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The contractor will coordinate with local police on traffic issues and possible detours.
  • Lincoln Park-Pequannock, Comly Road/Ryerson Road: The 1.7-mile project runs from Main Street in Lincoln Park to the Boulevard in Pequannock. J.A. Alexander of Bloomfield is the contractor. The bid price is $744,901. The project includes milling, paving, guiderails, ramps, and striping work. Work hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Infrastructure work should start the week of May 20. Milling and paving are not expected to start until later in June. The contractor will coordinate with local police on traffic issues and possible detours.
  • Morris Township-Morristown, South Street: The 1.2-mile project runs from Madison Avenue to Blackberry Lane. Schifano Constriction is the contractor. The bid price is $550,142. The project includes milling, paving, guiderails, ramps, and striping work. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., so expect morning commute delays. Milling and paving are likely to be done this week, (May 13). Local police will handle traffic issues.
  • Highview Avenue, Hanover Twp.: The 0.2-mile project will run to East Hanover Avenue. Work is expected to start in June. AJM Contractors of Clifton will be the contractor. The bid price is $124,359. The project includes storm basin work, milling, paving, ADA ramps, and striping. Work is expected to occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local residents should expect delays. The contractor has 20 working days to complete the work.

  • Roxbury, Mt. Arlington Blvd.: Half-mile project from Landing Rd. to Laurie Rd.
  • Harding-Morris Twp., James Street: 0.6-miles from Harter Rd. to Southgate Pkwy.
