(JPG, 5KB)The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced a railroad crossing safety project that will require the closure and detour of Lackawanna Avenue in Denville starting Tuesday morning.
Beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow (Oct. 3) until 7 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 5), the two-way traffic on Lackawanna Avenue is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing with Fox Hill Road for a traffic pattern study. The following detours will remain in place:
Lackawanna Avenue Eastbound Detour:
Fox Hill Road/Lackawanna Avenue Westbound Detour:
The detour will be coordinated with the local police.
In order to provide safer railroad crossings in Denville, the existing crossings will be temporarily closed in order to study traffic patterns associated with a possible permanent closure.
This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT's railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
