Domestic Violence Is Focus of Tuesday Program in Jefferson

JWBS Program on Jan. 7 Open to All County Residents

A special program on domestic violence, sponsored by Jefferson Township Connect and presented by domestic violence-focused nonprofit JBWS, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 7 €“ 8 p.m. in Jefferson Township.

Speaking at the "Awareness & Prevention of Domestic Violence" event will be JBWS Vice President Regina Braham and Crisis Response Team Manager Robin Hughes, both of whom will attempt to shine a light on this public health issue.

Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, affecting one in four women, one in seven men, and one in three 3 teens, crossing lines of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or nationality.

In New Jersey, there are approximately 64,000 reported cases of domestic violence each year, including more than 2,000 in Morris County. Domestic violence can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and even death. The devastating consequences of domestic violence can cross generations and last a lifetime.

JBWS is a local, private, confidential service welcoming ALL survivors of dating, domestic, or partner abuse (and their family members) regardless of severity of the abuse, marital status, income, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnicity.

All Morris County residents are invited to this important discussion. Resources will be available for those in need.

This program will take place in the Jefferson Township Council Chambers, 1033 Weldon Rd., Lake Hopatcong. The snow date is Jan. 21.
