Experiencing a Meal in Morris County With All the Senses €” Except Sight
Published on September 26, 2017
Morris County Residents are Invited to Vision Loss Alliance's "Dining in the Dark'' on Oct. 16
Imagine siting down for a multi-course gourmet meal. You breathe in delectable aromas, listen to the chatter of fellow guests, the clinking of crystal. Your hand brushes the smooth linen as your taste buds ready for action. Oh, and you're blindfolded.
Vision Loss Alliance of New Jersey, one of the state's longest-serving nonprofits for adults with vision loss, is hosting an unusual event on Oct. 16, during Blindness Awareness Month and also Eye Injury Awareness Month. People can enjoy a multi-course gourmet meal at the Hyatt Regency in Morristown with a twist: they'll wear blinders while eating.

Dining in the Dark is a fundraiser that's intended to be both fun and eye-opening about what it's like to live without the benefit of sight.
This will be a unique sensory experience that, on top of being fun, will give people with sight a glimpse of what having a meal is like for someone with severe vision loss, said Vision Loss Alliance Executive Director Kris Marino.
Proceeds will help support Vision Loss Alliance's programs, which for nearly 75 years have empowered people living with severe vision loss, helping them regain their confidence and independence. Almost 200,000 adults in New Jersey live with total blindness or severe vision loss.

Vision Loss Alliance offers programs that deliver substantial, measurable benefits, including fall and accident prevention, greater overall physical and mental health, and the use of tools, resources, and strategies to enrich lives and promote socialization.
Tickets for Dining in the Dark are $125, with tables of 10 available for $1,000. The evening includes a cocktail hour, gourmet dinner and brief awards program.
